FEMALE RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY (FRS)

Female Reconstructive Surgery (FRS) was created by Dr. Vikki Hufnagel based on her concepts of conservation and repair of the female reproductive organs.  FRS is a surgical alternative to, or repair after, a hysterectomy.  FRS is the name given by Dr. Hufnagel to the combination of many surgical procedures and techniques that she employs to repair and restore the female body.  Several specific operations of import have been pioneered by Dr. Hufnagel including adenomyectomy.  FRS may not always be the optimal treatment for every woman in which case she can elect a traditional hysterectomy procedure.

Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus and very often is accompanied by oophorectomy or the removal of the ovaries.  There have been many instances in which normal ovaries are removed simply because the surgeon is removing the uterus.  Hysterectomy is one of the most commonly performed major operations in the United States today.  Many medical journals have reported on the unwanted complications which can result after a hysterectomy.  Complications have been reported to range from 50% to 80% of all hysterectomies.  Some complications after hysterectomy include:

Hysterectomy was first devised around the turn of the century.   It was then, and still is today, thought that the removal of all the female organs was the only solution to many so called “female problems”.  This procedure remains virtually unchanged as performed today.  Hysterectomy is indicated today when cancer is found to be present in the female organs.

However, because of surgical techniques which have evolved during the past decade, the uterus and surrounding organs: ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, abdomen and vagina can often be effectively repaired in most cases.  The uterus’ role in a woman’s general health was brought to the world’s attention through Dr. Hufnagel’s book “No More Hysterectomies” (e.g. orgasm, production of hormonal substances, supportive structures, etc.)  Women, in many cases today, now have the choice between hysterectomy or repair and conservation of  their female organs.  Many women have selected FRS over traditional hysterectomy and myomectomy.
FRS uses modern surgical procedures to repair rather than amputate the female organs.  FRS is also used to repair complications which can follow a hysterectomy and other gynecological surgical procedures.

WHY IS FRS UNIQUE?

FRS is not traditional myomectomy.  FRS does not employ traditional myomectomy techniques for the removal of fibroids.  Minimal inversions and incisions are made to remove tumors.  Meticulous repair with surgical sculpting of the uterus represent a major surgical advancement in this approach to fibroid tumors.  FRS  has been successful in hundreds of cases previously labeled inoperable other than by hysterectomy.  FRS has helped women who have had fibroids after a myomectomy.

Argon beam is used in the surgery to fit the specific needs during the operation.

Recovery time for FRS has been documented to be shorter than that of hysterectomy and traditional myomectomy with a decrease in complications as well.

All FRS is video taped.  Patients, along with their families, may choose to watch their surgery while it is taking place.  They also watch their surgery after their operation and undergo a debriefing session with the staff called “closure”.  Dr. Hufnagel has found that the healing process is improved when the patient can actually visualize the procedure.  Bonding has been found to take place between family members and the patient, and has proved to be an important part of the FRS process.

Pain Management:   The majority of FRS are performed using a regional epidural anesthetic and with post operative patient controlled analgesia.  Also Herbody Antifibroid Formula assists in reducing pain.

Pregnancy:  Many women who were told their only solution was hysterectomy and that they would never be able to have children, have gone on to conceive and carry a pregnancy to term after FRS.

Women nationwide and from all over the world, of all ages, race and creed, come to the Center when they hear about FRS from women who have experienced FRS.  Many of these women were told by physicians that the only solution to their problem(s) was hysterectomy.  None of these women wanted to lose their organs.  Through FRS, these women were able to conserve their reproductive system.  These women have claimed that, FRS has been a miracle in their life.  FRS is an option and choice that women now have because of Dr. Hufnagel’s work.

Vikki HUFNAGEL Surgeon; Researcher; Author; Lecturer; Political Activist.  She attended UC Berkeley where she was a founding member of the Berkeley Women’s Health Collective and contributed to the first edition of “Our Bodies Ourselves”.  She graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).  She finished her OB/GYN training at the Albert Einstein college of Medicine, New York;  later a Fellow Department of Reproductive Genetics at UCSF.

Dr. Hufnagel is  the Medical Director and founder of The International Committee for the Advancement of Women's Health Care, Education, and Rights (TICAW).   TICAW  is  a resource for organizing health rights organizations and providing educational materials and resources on contemporary women’s health care.

Dr.  Hufnagel is the first to come forth and fully expose and document the massive female surgical abuses in the United States, (*Hysterectomies in the United States, 1965-1984, Vital & Health Statistics; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, December 1987).

As an advocate for women’s rights, Dr. Hufnagel co-authored and successfully sought passage of the nation’s first informed consent law for hysterectomy, California Senate Bill 835.  This was followed by enaction of Bill 10754 in the state of New York and Texas.  Dr. Hufnagel has provided testimony before the U.S. Congress and the National Institute of  Health on gender issues in medicine.

In an ongoing effort to educate, inform and empower women about their health care rights and surgical alternatives, Dr. Hufnagel has appeared on both radio and television.  Programs to her credit have included “Leeza,” “Sally Jesse Raphael,” “Oprah,”  KNBC, KABC, MSNBC FOX, CNN, BBC and numerous radio programs nationwide.

Hysterectomy has long been accepted as the only solutions to the problems of female disorders.  Of the three quarters of a million hysterectomies performed in the United States every year, as many as 90% may be unnecessary.  In this ground-breaking book, Dr. Vikki Hufnagel presents the latest medical knowledge on the problems that lead many doctors to recommend hysterectomy, the serious physical and psychological damage common in unnecessary hysterectomy, and offers the exciting facts about surgical alternatives that should considered by every woman... and every doctor.  An outspoken, passionate guide, No More Hysterectomies shatters the myths surrounding this all-too-common operation and helps women make informed intelligent decisions about their bodies.  No More Hysterectomies is also available in a French and British edition.  Her next book soon to be published is No More Menopause.  This book will expose the abuses of the medical and pharmaceautical companies as they are involved in the care and treatment of menopausal women.

Dr. Hufnagel is the only physician in the nation to actually write laws to protect female patients.  She has been severely attacked by traditional gyn physicians, The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and state agencies for her “whistleblowing activity.”  See “Behind the Ivory Towers” online in HypatiaPub.com.

To avoid any further attacks, she created the International Women's FRS Surgical Center in Mexico.  There patients receive first class individualized surgical care.  We can email our educational material covering FRS: Uterine Fibroids, Prolapse and Post Tubal Syndrome.  Dr. Hufnagel does not practice medicine in the USA but does provide excellent educational and legal reviews.  She is one of the few physicians to testify on behalf of female patients (another reason why she is constantly attacked).

The FRS Center also  provides for women, reduced costs over care in the USA.  The cost is less than 50% of the USA cost.  To schedule for the FRS Center, please call to speak with Mrs. Gaynor Soria toll free at 1-888-901-2744.  Also visit @ www.villaofyouth.com.  This tells you more about the center.  Your family watches the FRS in the observation room.  You have a driver and food cooked to your desire.  Women travel from all over the world including Japan, Africa, New Zealand, and the USA to have FRS.  You can speak with an Educational Facilitator who  has had the same problems you have and learn first hand how FRS benefited them.
