Note: If your physician told you that your only option is hysterectomy he/she may be grossly wrong.

"Hysterectomy is only necessary in the case of cancer. If you do not have cancer then you do not need a hysterectomy." -VGH

It is not necessary to have your reproductive organs removed because of non-cancerous, benign conditions.

Female Reconstructive Surgery (FRS) can treat literally all conditions that in the past have required hysterectomy (except cancer). FRS has saved many women from hysterectomy. Most of the women who have opted for FRS have been told by all their physicians that their condition was inoperable.

Dr. Hufnagel has been performing FRS for over 20 years. In just about every case the woman was told by her physician(s) that her only option to find relief and a cure to her fibroids, endometriosis, uterine prolapse and other non-cancerous female conditions was a hysterectomy. Dr. Hufnagel has shown and proven to the world over and over again that hysterectomy (the removal of the uterus, ovaries, etc…) is not necessary to correct these types of conditions.

Female Reconstructive Surgery (FRS) is a surgical alternative to hysterectomy. FRS is an all-encompassing surgery using a combination of surgical procedures to repair and restore female organs rather then to amputate them. FRS includes techniques for treatment of endometriosis, prolapse, adhesions, ovarian cysts, fibroids, and more.

The FRS philosophy, physicians, surgical team, caregivers, and the FRS Surgical Center all addresses the woman, her needs, and her reproductive organs as a whole. The complete FRS setting and experience is 100% dedicated to the overall preservation of the female organs.

"Hysterectomy should only be suggested or considered as an option if there is known proven uterine cancer, otherwise it is not a choice that I suggest. A supracervical hysterectomy for fibroids is beyond extreme." -Dr. Vikki Hufnagel

FRS is not Myomectomy! The two differ greatly. Myomectomy by U.S. standards is the simple removal of a fibroid from the serosa or superficial myomectrial layer of the uterine wall.

Multiple myomectomy may remove several tumors, but again this would only be the removal of fibroids located from the surface of the uterus and then multiple incisions are made in the uterine wall. This procedure does not routinely remove tumors with are intramural, submucosa, intraligamentous, or otherwise difficult to remove because of their anatomical placement. It is often said that the patient who has a myomectomy faces potential "re-growth" of the tumor removed. In many cases during myomectomy, the surgeon removed only the tumors that are on the uterine surface; therefore, tumors are left in the uterine body. Later as these other tumors continue to grow, it is said that the tumors that were removed have grown back.

If other conditions are noted at the time of surgery, it is standard to not address the conditions found. The myomectomy surgery is just for the removal of fibroids.

FRS is not Myomectomy! The two differ greatly. Myomectomy by U.S. standards is the simple removal of a fibroid from the serosa or superficial myomectrial layer of the uterine wall.

You will be required to sign a consent that states you give the doctor approval to remove your uterus in the case of the doctor deeming hysterectomy is "necessary". Often the doctor deems "hysterectomy is necessary" during these surgeries. He may have already made up his mind to perform a hysterectomy before even beginning the surgery. You are under general anesthesia (asleep), and no family members or support is allowed to witness the surgery.

With Female Reconstructive Surgery (FRS), all the tumors are removed: intramural, serosa, and submucosa tumors of any size and in any location. One incision is made into the uterus. Dr. Hufnagel has removed as many as 130 tumors from a single patient and has removed fibroid tumors weighting as much as 9 pounds. Size, location, and number is not an issue with FRS.

Female Reconstructive Surgery (FRS) is not just a surgery for the removal of fibroids but addresses all conditions found such as ovarian cysts, adhesions, endometriosis, adenomyosis, prolapse, and other benign, yet destructive conditions which occur in the female organ system. FRS can treat literally all conditions that in the past have required hysterectomy (except cancer). FRS is unique and specific to each particular woman. All conditions noted during each FRS case are addressed and attended to at the time of surgery. FRS is designed to make a full restoration to the uterus and female organs. Your uterus is repaired, not removed!

And you will not be asked or required to sign consent for hysterectomy!

FRS is usually a two to four hour surgery depending on the number of problems needing repair. FRS is more complex and time consuming than hysterectomy, which is the simple removal of the uterus.

During FRS you are not put to sleep but a regional anesthesia is used. This not only reduces your risk factor from general anesthesia complications, but also allows you to be more empowered and involved in the FRS experience.

All surgeries are recorded with both video and still photo documentation. Family members are encouraged to accompany you and witness your surgery. They are also encouraged to stay with you at your beside for the entire length of your stay at the FRS Center.
